Malaga

property in spainMalaga is the major coastal city of Andalucia and sits as the gateway to the Costa del Sol. Pablo Picasso was born in 1881 in the city which now houses the headquarters of the Picasso Foundation. The Malagueños love their food, so bars and restaurants are key to the Malaga regions popularity. Tapas, small portions of many different dishes is an Andalusian tradition and a wonderfully inexpensive way to try a variety of local food. The park on Calle Alameda houses an impressive botanical collection and has open air concerts every Sunday. La Alcazaba a fortress that dates back to the 700s, although much of the structure belongs to the mid 11th century, is now a fascinating archaeological museum.

Fuente de la Piedra in the Malaga Region is a village on the edge of a vast salt lake that in spring and summer hosts thousands of flamingos who use it as a mating ground. Malaga Province is the only place in mainland Europe where wild flamingos live and mate, the site is now a protected area.

Cadiz

This aside, many people overlook Cadiz, as it’s the province in the corner of Andalucia. It’s often only given merit by the windsurfing and water sports fanatics that flock to this so-called European surfing coast.

Costa del Sol

The beautiful capital city of Málaga is the home of Pablo Picasso’s birthplace and the finest Flamenco shows, bull fighting, tapas restaurants and boutique shopping. Because the Costa Del Sol is the gateway to Africa, it has been conquered and civilised many times and therefore it is rich in archaeological remains. The Nerja Cave dating back 20,000 years is one of many historical sites to explore in the area. The friendliness of the people and the ambience of the Costa Del Sol is something to be admired.

Seville

property in spainThe city is striking for its vibrancy. It is the largest town in Southern Spain, the city of Carmen, Don Juan and Figaro. Seville lies on the banks of the Guadalquivir and is one of the largest historical centres in Europe, it has the minaret of La Giralda, the cathedral and the Alcázar Palace.

The Alcazar in Seville was founded in c.8th Century by the rulers of Seville from the time of the Romans. During the 11th Century, it was developed by the Court of Abbadid Dynasty. Despite years of reforms and changes to the buildings, including Pedro the Cruel who completely rebuilt it using parts of other buildings from Seville and Cordoba, the site is still the best example of this type of architecture. Although also not to be missed is the Casa de Pilatos, one of the most beautiful buildings you can visit in Seville. The Cathedral in Seville is the largest Gothic Church in the world, and the place where Christopher Columbus was initially buried. Cordoba

property in spainNeolithic Cordoba and its history began during the bronze age, with inhabitants trading on the mineral rich territory. Founded by the Romans and known as Corduba in 152 BC it was the capital city of Hispania Ulterior and became known for its Olive Oil and Art.

During the pre AD period, the Cordoba region was famous not only for oil and minerals, but also for poets such as Seneca and Lucan, who lived there in a time when Cordoba city was accepted as the capital of the modern Andalucia.

This summer festival held from July to August in Paseo del Puerto is a two-month programme of events taking place at the port. Entertainment for all the family including dance, theatre, music and other performing arts.

Saint John's Bonfires
The bonfires are eld in various locations across alicante involves 5 days of festivities celebrating the summer solstice. The bonfires begin on the night of the 20th with large papier mâché and wooden sculptures being erected. Four days later they are set alight alongside a huge firework display and various other entertainments and sporting events.

Moors and Christian Festival
Held from June through to August this free festival mixes religion, carnival and history. Celebrated all over the region.
